OC Supervisor Andrew Do to Host First Ever Kids Chalk Art Event in Cleaned Up Santa Ana Civic Center -- Site of Former Homeless Encampment

In an effort to reclaim public spaces for children and families, Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do is hosting the first ever free community art event in downtown Santa Ana on Saturday, August 10.

The inaugural Orange County Chalk and Talk event, co-hosted by the Heritage Museum, will feature community murals by accomplished local artists, face painting for kids, and a chalk art workshop for Orange County families to express themselves and paint their own mural.

“Art is a way to strengthen our community and send a powerful message that everyone is welcome in Orange County,” said Supervisor Do. “We are delighted to have talented artists from the Heritage Museum show us how it’s done.”

The Heritage Museum’s resident artist will guide a community-generated art mural, which families can fill in with their own artistic touch. Local artists will host a mini-mural workshop for kids to explore their own unique artistic talents. The Orange County Public Libraries will be issuing library cards and other agencies will share information on how to access local county services.

“For too long, Santa Ana residents have been afraid to walk around the Civic Center Plaza,” said Supervisor Do. “We’re organizing this event to foster a stronger community spirit, where everyone has access to county services, can enjoy our public spaces and feels included in our community.”
