As part of his ongoing commitment to fiscal transparency, Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do is releasing budget documents and background materials outlining the programs and services provided under the county’s $323 million mental health services budget.
Later this month, Supervisor Andrew Do and Chairwoman Lisa Bartlett will take testimony from the public on Orange County’s mental health system. Supervisor Do says that his decision to disclose budget documents will aid the public in advance of the March 25 meeting.
“Releasing these budget documents gives the public vital information about the county’s mental health programs and will improve the discussion at our March 25 public hearing,” said Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do, who represents the communities of Garden Grove, Westminster, Santa Ana and portions of Fountain Valley. “This hearing gives Orange County residents an opportunity to recommend ways to improve our delivery of mental health services.”
The Orange County Health Care Agency serves as the county’s specialty mental health plan for patients struggling with severe mental illness. Orange County oversees approximately 200 programs and services, ranging from case management to crisis intervention.
Last month, Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do announced his support for State Senator John Moorlach’s proposal to provide greater flexibility and make better use of mental health funds provided by the state.
Senate Bill 1273 grants local governments the authority to use mental health services funding for crisis stabilization services for individuals who are experiencing a mental health emergency.
Supervisors Bartlett, Fifth District, and Do, First District, comprise an ad-hoc committee established last year to address programs and needs within the County’s behavioral health system. Behavioral health relates to a person’s mental well-being and their ability to function in society.
