Free COVID-19 Testing: Orange County Offers Free Testing at New Drive-Through Site

Orange County residents can now schedule an appointment for a free COVID-19 test at the first countywide testing site in Anaheim.

“Governor Gavin Newsom has indicated that testing is a critical need for all of California, and Orange County has heeded the call,” said Supervisor Andrew Do, Vice Chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors.

In partnership with 360 Clinic and the City of Anaheim, the County of Orange will host contactless COVID-19 tests Wednesdays through Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Anaheim Convention Center. This testing site will build to a capacity of 1,200 tests per day by the end of the month, and supplements other community testing offered by the state and County.

“The Anaheim Convention Center is centrally located to be able to serve both Anaheim and Santa Ana, two cities that have shown the greatest increase in positive cases,” said Supervisor Do, who represents the First District, which includes the City of Santa Ana.

The new large-scale testing facility coincides with other County efforts to combat COVID-19. Earlier this month, the County launched the Latino Health Equity Initiative with several community partners that goes directly to the most adversely impacted communities in Santa Ana and Anaheim, providing educational materials and local testing sites.

“It’s critical that we bring more testing to all communities, especially the Latino Community, in Orange County,” said Supervisor Do. “Research shows that Latino communities are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, based on their jobs, living situations, and underlying health issues.”

The California Department of Public Health’s new tiered testing guidelines, released on July 14, requires testing prioritization of individuals with symptoms and those in high-risk categories or who work in high-risk sectors – such as skilled nursing facilities and prisons.

Following the state’s guidance, the OC COVID-19 Testing Super Site – which is by appointment only – is available for the following groups:

• Symptomatic individuals

• Healthcare workers and first responders

• Workers in congregate living settings – such as skilled nursing facilities, jails, or homeless shelter settings

• Individuals with close contact (15 minutes or more within 6 feet) to someone known or suspected to have COVID-19

• Essential workers in contact with the public – such as grocery and food supply workers, utility workers, and public employees
